Wayne Zebzda: Excerpts from ROADTRIP

Artist Wayne Zebzda was born in Connecticut, relocated to the west coast to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, and has spent the last two decades living and working on Kaua'i. The following images are excerpted from his exhibition entitled ROADTRIP, which was shown at The Contemporary Museum of Honolulu (2008), The Maui Arts and Cultural Center (2009), and Galerie 103 (2009). It is a continuously evolving series of works in a variety of media.

Marina Noronha: "I Miss You" Ring

Brazilian designer Marina Noronha created the stainless steel "I Miss You" ring to convey the feeling of absence of someone beloved and irreplaceable. According to the designer, the title is best expressed in Portuguese as "Tenho saudades tuas." She says, "Based on the idea of a puzzle with a missing piece, I drew up a ring that was both crude and delicate, that could convey the essence of love and the bitterness of absence." Ms. Noronha's work is available through Shapeways.

Moos Tailored Basics Sweatshirt

Koen over at Moos Tailored Basics has expanded beyond custom denim. His latest creation is a classic, gray crew-neck sweatshirt. Each piece is made from U.S. organic Supima cotton, which is knitted by Toki-sen-i in Wakayama, Japan. Supplies are limited.

F-One | Manera: Waterman Experience

This came your way a while back, and somehow it slipped through the cracks. It's an F-One film about riding waves, but it also depicts life in The Republic of Cape Verde (a nation composed of ten islands situated 354 miles off the coast of Western Africa) as experienced by Mitu Monteiro, a world champion kitesurfer and all-around waterman.

Nikole Nelson for RWH

Designer Nikole Nelson, a Maui native, created a cover for the spring issue of Running With Heels Magazine that is nothing short of impressive. She built a lush bloom of flowers from over 50 pairs of deconstructed shoes. See photos below for an idea of the level of intricacy. For more details on the project, check out Ms. Nelson's blog.
