Lanona Shoe Co.

High-fives to Huckberry for their keen eye when it comes to spotting interesting brands like Lanona Shoe Co.

The idea for Lanona came to founder Ben Ransom in 2011, when he wanted to learn how to build himself a pair of custom leather shoes. After two years of apprenticing with a master shoemaker, Ransom, operating out of St. Paul, Minnesota, began producing footwear that is entirely American made (in Maine, Minnesota, and Florida) and American sourced (using such quality materials as Horween leather and Lanona's own patent-pending outsoles). The resulting creations are stylish and built to last.

Chopper Fever

Chopper Fever is a completely American made and produced brand featuring selvedge Japanese and Cone denim, outerwear, custom made jewelry, hats, accessories, button ups, tees, and long sleeve menswear.  They focus on quality details and styles that incorporate the new and the old using vintage dead stock fabric and limited runs.  You can easily see how they draw their inspiration from vintage Americana, heritage workwear, and custom motorcycle culture.  Chopper Fever is an offshoot of Sunrise Cycles, a Los Angeles-based full custom Harley Davidson shop.

This is the future of the motorcycle industry.  This up-and-coming generation of young builders who are bringing their own unique perspectives and experiences--skateboarding, punk rock, a hint of grunge, a sense of fashion that doesn’t consist solely of leather and fringe--to the freedom that comes with two wheels and the open road.  These days it’s not uncommon to see a lad with a big, bushy beard, cuffed blue jeans, RayBans, and flannel out and about on a rebuilt vintage Harley. This is an industry that not too long ago was saturated with extravagant bikes built for form over function, and many builders were claimed in the recession.  As a result, the years since have seen a resurgence of old school bobbers and the like.  Sunrise Cycles and their brothers in arms build bikes that are stripped down to everything but the bare essentials and make them look badass in the process.

Lumina Clothing Company | Raleigh, NC, USA

You're always up for American brands that are committed to manufacturing their products here in the States, so when the folks at Lumina reached out, you were grateful for the opportunity to take a few of their pieces for a spin.

Lumina is a Raleigh, North Carolina-based company composed of four young entrepreneurs whose professional backgrounds range from architecture to nuclear engineering. When they launched Lumina in 2009, their objective was to not only design and build clothes of superior quality, but to do so in a way that was "innately North Carolinian and [would] bolster the industries that were once so predominant in [the] state, but have fallen away, such as textiles, agriculture, and manufacturing." With a storefront in Raleigh, the ultimate goal is to have their entire operation in North Carolina. In the meantime, all products are manufactured in South Carolina, Chicago, or New York.

The lightweight "Casual Poplin" shirt in purple gingham was perfect for the 80-degree afternoon you spent lounging, swimming, and luncheoning at Halekulani. At 5'9", you're sporting a size small, which you figure equates roughly to a 14.5" (neck)/32" (sleeve). The fit is spot-on--slim, but not Gitman Vintage micro. In other words, you can still move actively. You can see this shirt being a versatile all-rounder; it could just as easily be dressed up with blazer and tie.

Also in the mix are a bag and two ties. The Lumina x Parrott Market Tote is a collaboration with Parrott Canvas of Greenville, NC. It's a no-frills tote that's big enough to serve as an everyday carry. So far, you've had it on the beach and in the city. Work and play type stuff. The understated design features durable canvas duck and riveted leather straps. You expect it will wear in beautifully. The ties ("Alexander" and "Richmond") are classic, simple and clean. At 2 5/8" in width, they're right where you need them to be and, of course, solidly constructed.

Alden Indy Boot in Suede Marble for Très Bien Shop

You're obviously late to the party; these are sold out. However, they're just too good, so this entry is for posterity. While you love your Natural Chromexcel Indys, you're really feeling the look of marble suede on crepe/leather sole.
