lurknyc | "Vacancy"

"Vacancy" is the newest clip from Nick von Werssowetz, aka lurknyc, the up-and-coming videographer documenting NYC skateboarders. It has all the grit and grime you've come to expect from von Werssowetz and his crew, especially after the release of "Strangers" (2015), a 16-minute rampage through the streets of New York.

Aurora Shoe Co. | "North Pacific"

Based in rural upstate New York, the Aurora Shoe Company has been making quality shoes by hand for both men and women since the early 1990s. All materials are sourced domestically--including leathers from Horween and Vibram soles--and assembled by skilled artisans. While their staple slip-on, the Middle English, isn't going anywhere, the folks at Aurora recently introduced their first new men's design in more than 20 years. The North Pacific is a stylish, full-grain leather chukka mounted on a sturdy Vibram sole. If you order, they recommend sending tracings of your feet to insure the best fit. After all, comfort and long-lasting wear are of the utmost importance.

Thomas Phifer | Corning Museum of Glass

The newest addition to the Corning Museum of Glass in Steuben County, New York, was designed by architect Thomas Phifer. The 100,000-square-foot Contemporary Art + Design Wing includes a 26,000-square-foot building dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art in glass. Adjacent to the new gallery, a renovated historic glass factory ventilator building houses a 500-seat theatre for glassmaking demonstrations. The new wing opened to the public on March 20, 2015.

Supreme | "the red devil"

This week, Supreme followed up cherry (2014), the brand's grimy debut skate video, with the red devil. It's more of the same from cherry director William Strobeck, with the likes of legend Jason Dill and strong BX up-and-comer Tyshawn Jones casually stomping ridiculous tricks and generally defying authority.

Cooper Hewitt Reopening

Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design, will open the renovated and restored Carnegie Mansion, Friday, Dec. 12, 2014. When the transformed museum opens on New York’s Museum Mile, it will offer 60 percent more exhibition space to showcase one of the most diverse and comprehensive collections of design works in existence.

Ten inaugural exhibitions and installations, many of which draw from the museum’s permanent collection of more than 210,000
objects that span 30 centuries, will feature more than 700 objects throughout four floors of the mansion. For the first time in the museum’s history, the entire second floor will be dedicated to showcasing the permanent collection through a variety of exhibitions.

The transformation of the historic Carnegie Mansion (the former residence of Andrew Carnegie) into a 21st-century museum is an astonishing work of design in itself, with an esteemed team of 13 design firms involved. The spirit and character of the landmark building were preserved, with key elements restored to their original grandeur. Much-needed system upgrades were made, allowing for more flexibility to reduce exhibition installation time, better accommodate the movement of objects and, above all, to enhance public access on every level.

Supreme x Stone Island A/W 14

It so happens that Stone Island and their Italian supertechnicians/wizards (streghe?), who devote their days to things like making dyes (read: creating colors no one has ever seen before) and revolutionizing outerwear, have teamed up with NYC streetwear titan Supreme. The collaboration for A/W 2014 consists of the Raso Gommato Cover Nero Jacket (shh...shh...there's a removable eye mask on the stowaway hood), a group of fleeces, and a Supreme camp cap. The collection drops October 2, both in stores and online.

Outlier | Nyco Slims

Outlier just dropped yet another amazingly well designed and constructed pant with a fit that's spot on. The Nyco Slims are Outlier's take on the classic, trim-fitting American chino. They're made from a 9-oz. Nyco fabric, which is an American-made, military surplus blend of 50% cotton/50% nylon. It's gone into rugged military gear for decades. Tougher than raw denim, these trousers will stand up to some pretty rugged wear.
